The Essence Choir for improvisers

TECfi began in 2016 with a call to practice the 'sargam' scale of Indian classical music through conjuring the spirit of the alap in Indian raga music. This is the slow, non-rhythmic introduction of the raga. It is a peaceful practice and a doorway into honing precise tuning of sung intervals and pitches through clean listening. It is a way of honing our skills, through pitching the intervals of the scale correctly. We also connect this to individual ways of improvising that arise, step by step, out of this. It is also simultaneously an invitation to heart-centred present moment awareness. We are in the research and development stage of this project and no performance is planned, at this stage.
